Taking further steps with Ladder Safety

World-renowned manufacturer of access equipment, WernerCo, is once again joining forces with the Ladder Association to support its ‘A Step too Far’ campaign.
Tackling the need for ladder training within the workplace, the initiative aims to challenge the misconceptions that users don’t require training when working at height.
The Health and Safety Executive recently announced that the number of fatal injuries occurring on site has increased in the past year with a further half a million workers suffering non-fatal injuries. Falls from height remain one of the leading causes and the Ladder Association’s ‘A Step Too Far’ campaign serves to reinforce the message that ladders are a safe, practical and versatile solution for low risk and short duration work at height – however appropriate training is required to ensure ladders are used and inspected safely.
The initiative follows the success of last year’s ‘Get a Grip’ ladder safety initiative, which saw over 6,500 Ladder Safety Packs downloaded across the industry from the Ladder Association’s website. The free guidance covered a range of topics including knowing when to use a ladder, equipment selection, safe use, correct inspection and the benefits of professional training.

WernerCo, an approved Ladder Association Training Centre, delivers work at height training course to provide users with the practical knowledge required to use ladders and stepladders safely and correctly in the workplace. Upon completion of a Ladder Association training course, delegates are awarded a LadderCard which can help to prove competence as required by the Work at Height Regulations.
The Ladders & Stepladders for Users course covers when and how to use a ladder, handling and storage, understanding the law, standards, and potential hazards. The Ladders & Stepladders Inspection course – for existing Laddercard holders - is aimed at anyone who is responsible for inspecting and maintaining ladders or stepladders in their workplace. It covers practical guidance on assessing the need for inspection, fault-finding and recommending actions, record keeping, and the law.
