If my husband is 230 lbs and the load bearing weight is 250, will he be safe? What if he went down heavy on one of the steps, would it break? Please get back to me as we are unsure if we should buy this ladder of get a heavier duty one.

Thank you,
Fiona

Answers

Answer:
The duty rating on this ladder is 250lbs. We never suggest exceeding the duty rating while using the ladder. If your husband needs to carry anything into the attic that exceeds 20lbs he would be over the allowance and we would not suggest using. We would suggest the WH2208 which is rated at 350lbs.

Is WH2210 "heavy" duty compared to the WU2210? The WH2210 at Lowes shows a max weight of 350 and the WU2210 at Home Depot shows a max weight os 250. Just thicker wood?

Answer:
These ladders are made with the same type of wood. The WH has slightly thicker wood used for the rails. The location of rivets also play a factor in the duty rating of this ladder.

Repair or replace?

I have a W2210 ladder, and the legs have splits where they attach to the lower hinge. The damage starts at the hinge rivets. Are the legs replaceable/repairable, or do I need to replace the entire unit? What would be the cause of this type of damage? Which current models would be appropriate replacements?

Was this helpful?helpful0unhelpful0

Answers

Answer:
Unfortunately the legs are not repairable and you would need to replace the entire unit. The leg splitting could be caused by several things such as exceeding the duty rating, moisture, age, etc. If you want to stick with a wood attic ladder, the model is something that is still manufactured. If you want a wood ladder with a higher duty rating you would want the WH2210.

Different types of ladders are designed to keep you safe and productive when climbing or standing. Using the wrong style of ladder or simply ignoring the limitations of climbing equipment can result in a fall or serious injury.
Height is referring to the actual ladder height. Extension ladders should be 7 to 10 feet longer than the highest support or contact point, which may be the wall or roof line. The highest standing level is four rungs down from the top. The highest permitted standing level on a stepladder is two steps down from the top.

Reach height is the maximum reach assuming a 5’6” person with a vertical 12” reach.
Ladders are designed to safely hold up to a specific amount of weight. The Werner Performance System defines five different capacities using a color and star rating system. The Duty Rating is defined as the maximum safe load capacity of the ladder. A person’s fully clothed weight plus the weight of any tools and materials that are carried onto the ladder must be less than the load capacity.

Werner offers ladder made from fiberglass and aluminum. Each material has characteristics which make it best for certain applications, or one material may simply fit the personal preferences of the user. For example, if working around electricity users should select fiberglass products due to their non-conductive side rails.
