I need to replace an attic access ladder, but there is no label on the ladder to reference. The ladder is wood and has two coil springs attached to counter-levers/arms which are mounted on metal plates with bolts. The ladder has three ink stamps: "For residential use only", "300lbs" and "Feb 2002". The access door on which the ladder is mounted measures 24" x 52.5". What model should I buy to replace this and where can I find it?

Pneumatic shocks

Seems all new pull down attic stairs (ladders) employee pneumatic shocks in place of coil springs. I am concerned about the longevity of your pneumatic shocks, they are not much bigger in diameter than a pencil. I have a 2004 LS 430 Lexus that employees these on the engine hood and trunk. They are shot. My existing attic pull down stairs employees coil springs and they have never failed and that unit was installed in 1980, which makes them 36 years old. What is you mean time to failure with you pneumatic shocks? I have 1,000 units I need to install pull down stairs and don't want to buy into a maintenance nightmare latter on.

Answer:
We have no published shelf life of the shocks. Models WH2508 and WH2510 have springs. Of course, you will need to determine the floor to ceiling height to make sure this will work for you.

Ladder Specifications

I have replaced our S2208 with the AH2510 but only gained an inch in the opening. Since the S2208 had a metal frame and AH2510 has a wooden frame, the gain in the actual opening was minimal not the 22.5" to a 25" opening as expected. We removed 2 2"x4" in the sides of the attic opening for a total of 4" to meet the 25" width requirement and expected to get more than 1" additional width into the attic.

The actual outside frame of the AH2510 is only 24.5 " and the inside opening to the attic is 23" when installed and then the braces take away a little more of the opening. It would have been great to have the frame actually be the 25"...instead I have .5" gaps on the side of the frame which I would have preferred to be a wider opening into the attic

As part of the specifications , Werner should include the the actual opening (inside of frame) size.....the main reason to upgrade to the 25" ladder was to get a water heater into the attic, so inside frame size is everything. With the packaging..."Extra Wide" 25x 54" Opening size is misleading.

I realize that you only purchased the Werner name and not the products, but going forward how will I be aware of any issues with my current ladder as I do not see a place to register my ladder?????

Just out of curiosity, why is the Energy seal ladder only available in the 22.5"? You should insulate all of the doors.

Answer:
The measurement between the two arms, would be the width of the ladder. The width of the ladder is 17 1/8". The rough opening measurements with the frame measurement taken out is 23" x 52".

Replacing our S2208 with a wider ladder so that we can replace our water heater.
Need to know the width of the opening since the frame of the ladder would take away from the 25" rough opening...

Answer:
The door frame is around 1" on each side. If the rough opening is 25" x 54", with the door frame measurement taken out, the opening will be 23" x 52" The width of the ladder is
17 1/8". Rails are 2 3/8" wide.

Different types of ladders are designed to keep you safe and productive when climbing or standing. Using the wrong style of ladder or simply ignoring the limitations of climbing equipment can result in a fall or serious injury.
Height is referring to the actual ladder height. Extension ladders should be 7 to 10 feet longer than the highest support or contact point, which may be the wall or roof line. The highest standing level is four rungs down from the top. The highest permitted standing level on a stepladder is two steps down from the top.

Reach height is the maximum reach assuming a 5’6” person with a vertical 12” reach.
Ladders are designed to safely hold up to a specific amount of weight. The Werner Performance System defines five different capacities using a color and star rating system. The Duty Rating is defined as the maximum safe load capacity of the ladder. A person’s fully clothed weight plus the weight of any tools and materials that are carried onto the ladder must be less than the load capacity.

Werner offers ladder made from fiberglass and aluminum. Each material has characteristics which make it best for certain applications, or one material may simply fit the personal preferences of the user. For example, if working around electricity users should select fiberglass products due to their non-conductive side rails.
