Ladder Specifications

I have replaced our S2208 with the AH2510 but only gained an inch in the opening. Since the S2208 had a metal frame and AH2510 has a wooden frame, the gain in the actual opening was minimal not the 22.5" to a 25" opening as expected. We removed 2 2"x4" in the sides of the attic opening for a total of 4" to meet the 25" width requirement and expected to get more than 1" additional width into the attic.

The actual outside frame of the AH2510 is only 24.5 " and the inside opening to the attic is 23" when installed and then the braces take away a little more of the opening. It would have been great to have the frame actually be the 25"...instead I have .5" gaps on the side of the frame which I would have preferred to be a wider opening into the attic

As part of the specifications , Werner should include the the actual opening (inside of frame) size.....the main reason to upgrade to the 25" ladder was to get a water heater into the attic, so inside frame size is everything. With the packaging..."Extra Wide" 25x 54" Opening size is misleading.

I realize that you only purchased the Werner name and not the products, but going forward how will I be aware of any issues with my current ladder as I do not see a place to register my ladder?????

Just out of curiosity, why is the Energy seal ladder only available in the 22.5"? You should insulate all of the doors.

Replacing our S2208 with a wider ladder so that we can replace our water heater.
Need to know the width of the opening since the frame of the ladder would take away from the 25" rough opening...

Answer:
The AE2210 is the only attic ladder that is energy efficient and insulated. The AH2510 is not insulated. Although, we do offer the Attic Ladder Installation and Trim Kit AC59; that can be used with all of our attic ladders.

Answer:
The AH2210 is designed for a rough opening of 22 1/" x 54" and a floor to ceiling height of 7'8" to 10'3". If you need to confirm if this fits, your space and opening will have to meet the requirements of this ladder. We do offer a Compact Aluminum Attic Ladder, model number AA1510B, that is for small openings. The rough opening has to be 18" x24" minimum and the Floor to Floor Ceiling Height Range is 7' to 9'10".

The top of my 2x8 joist is 96" (8 feet), making the bottom 88 7/8". Can I mount the top of the ladder frame assembly at the top of the 2x8 leaving the bottom of the ladder frame assembly in the middle of the 2x8, or would that interfere with the use of the ladder?

My rough opening (between the rafters) is 22" x 54".

AE2210: Your answer for a question (Dated March 23, 2016) with the same rough opening said "'yes, the model AE2210 will work with your rough opening (22 inches)...".

AH2210: Your answer for the same question (2 years, 1 month ago) said "The AH2210 has a rough opening requirement of 22-1/2 inches... The AH2210 will need the extra half inch of space to shim and adjust the ladder once in the opening".
Are there different specs for each ladder (AE2210 and AH2210) or can I make the 22 inch opening work?

Answer:
For both the AE2210 and AH2210, the rough opening is 22.5" x 54". The 22 inch opening will not work. We do
offer model number AA1510B that will accept a rough
opening of 18" x 24" minimum. Although, please make
sure your floor to floor Height Range is 7' to 9' 10".

Answer:
Let me give you some background on this specific model of ladder. The S2200 series of ladders were manufactured prior to 2007. We purchased Werner out of bankruptcy in 2007. Werner was previously a family owned company and when they went bankrupt we physically just purchased the name "Werner". So we did not manufacture this particular model of ladder and they did not give us any replacement parts for this ladder. There was also a Class Action Lawsuit concerning this ladder. I would not recommend installing this ladder.

Different types of ladders are designed to keep you safe and productive when climbing or standing. Using the wrong style of ladder or simply ignoring the limitations of climbing equipment can result in a fall or serious injury.
Height is referring to the actual ladder height. Extension ladders should be 7 to 10 feet longer than the highest support or contact point, which may be the wall or roof line. The highest standing level is four rungs down from the top. The highest permitted standing level on a stepladder is two steps down from the top.

Reach height is the maximum reach assuming a 5’6” person with a vertical 12” reach.
Ladders are designed to safely hold up to a specific amount of weight. The Werner Performance System defines five different capacities using a color and star rating system. The Duty Rating is defined as the maximum safe load capacity of the ladder. A person’s fully clothed weight plus the weight of any tools and materials that are carried onto the ladder must be less than the load capacity.

Werner offers ladder made from fiberglass and aluminum. Each material has characteristics which make it best for certain applications, or one material may simply fit the personal preferences of the user. For example, if working around electricity users should select fiberglass products due to their non-conductive side rails.
