Setting Floor Joists and Roof Trusses in Residential Construction

Can I set floor joists or Roof Trusses by working from one of your ladders? How do I keep it from sliding or moving? Will it provide me enough support so that my employees are not knocked off the ladder while handling the floor joists or roof trusses?
Asked by: Mark
The platform ladders do allow for a user to have a large, wide standing platform while working from the ladders. However, the weight rating of the ladder should never be exceeded. The calculated weight rating is the rating of the user, plus all materials on the ladder at one time. The ladder has slip resistant feet, to help keep the ladder in place while in use. The PD6200 series of ladders might be a good option as well, as the ladders allow the user to work in any direction, while on a large platform.

Ladders are not available in various colors. However, a process known as Glas*Mark is available on the fiberglass rails. A Glas*Mark is a process of imaging a logo into the fiberglass. Please see the Literature section of our website for further information and instructions on the Glas*Mark policy.

Feet Size

Would like to know what the actual size of the feet are for each. Was also wondering if there is a floor accessory available so these ladders can be used on basketguard, that has floor hole openings the size of 1-3/4" x 3-3/4".
Asked by: Tim
The rear feet on the P7404 ladder are 2 inches wide by 1.656 inches long, and the front feet are 1.438 inches by 3.27 inches. Grating shoes are available as an accessory that are a longer and wider shoe. The front grating shoe is 3.562 inches by 1.938 inches, and the rear grating shoe is 1.938 inches by 1.938 inches. The grating shoes are the widest available shoe for a step ladder.

Different types of ladders are designed to keep you safe and productive when climbing or standing. Using the wrong style of ladder or simply ignoring the limitations of climbing equipment can result in a fall or serious injury.
Height is referring to the actual ladder height. Extension ladders should be 7 to 10 feet longer than the highest support or contact point, which may be the wall or roof line. The highest standing level is four rungs down from the top. The highest permitted standing level on a stepladder is two steps down from the top.

Reach height is the maximum reach assuming a 5’6” person with a vertical 12” reach.
Ladders are designed to safely hold up to a specific amount of weight. The Werner Performance System defines five different capacities using a color and star rating system. The Duty Rating is defined as the maximum safe load capacity of the ladder. A person’s fully clothed weight plus the weight of any tools and materials that are carried onto the ladder must be less than the load capacity.

Werner offers ladder made from fiberglass and aluminum. Each material has characteristics which make it best for certain applications, or one material may simply fit the personal preferences of the user. For example, if working around electricity users should select fiberglass products due to their non-conductive side rails.
