D7116-2 16 ft Type IAA Fiberglass D-Rung Extension Ladder is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Ladder you'll ever own! Using this ladder is like standing on the ground, yes it's that solid. I am a 250 pound man lugging up my tools and sometimes very heavy parking lot lights and I never once thought this ladder would fail me. I've had my D7124-2 24 for 15 years now. It has sat on my roof racks on my truck for 15 grueling New England seasons, from the extreme heat to the -40 temperatures in northern New Hampshire enduring the worst conditions possible plus throwing in mud, sand, sun and road salt.I'm here on the website today because It's finally time to replace it due to the truck roof racks were starting to wear into it and the gel coat is virtually gone.If you want your family to see you at the end of the day be sure to get the D7100 series, if you want to save a few bucks and get a cheapy your not doing yourself any favors, it's well worth the extra. I wouldn't even consider buying anything else.

Why are the specs on the 1AA 40ft ext. Ladder conflicting?

Part of the discription says its 375lb rated and part says its only 300lb rated. What's correct? Is it actually a1AA ladder?
Asked by: Surfpalani
For the models D7116-2 through D7132-2, these models are rated at 375lbs. Models D7136-2 and the D7140-2 are rated at 300lbs. Therefor the D7140-2 has a 300lb duty rating.

How do you separate the base from the fly section?

It seems like you would have to remove an end cap to eliminate interference in one of the brackets. It seems the end caps are permanently mounted.
Asked by: Russ
Yes the D7140-2 can be separated so you can use the base section as a straight ladder. You would not need to remove any end caps in order to separate the 2 sections. You would need to slide the fly section off the base section through the top of the ladder.

Winter Storage - I need to store the ladder outside in New England weather. Should I look at fiberglass or aluminum?

Asked by: John
Our ladders are not weatherproof. Werner ladders can tolerate some degree of elements but are not 100% rust proof. If exposed to extreme weathering, some components such as rivets, nuts, bolts, etc could rust over time. Exposure to the sunlight and weathering can affect resin coating on a fiberglass ladder. A ladder left in these conditions can experience a Surface Weathering or Fiber Bloom. In this situation it is recommended to recoat the ladder. Please visit the Literature section of our website to find the Fiberglass Technical Manual for further information and treatment for a fiberglass ladder. When it comes to life expectancy, one will not last longer than the other.

What is the warranty on a 28' fiberglass ladder?

Asked by: Gary
Werner Co. does not offer a written or implied warranty on its products. We do stand behind the quality and workmanship of our models. Issues of this nature would usually become evident within the first 6 to 12 months of ownership.

Ladder top support point

I'm having a bit of difficulty in correlating ladder height vs. reach height vs. maximum working length vs. maximum open extended length vs. height to gutter or top support point. I want to access second floor dryer exhaust vent caps at about 28 feet above ground level. I was thinking in terms of a D7128-2 ladder, which looks to fit my needs in all regards until I see the height to top support point specification from http://www.wernerco.com/us/support/ladder-safety-tips/how-to-choose-a-ladder which seems to indicate that I need a standoff of some sort in the range of 17 to 21 feet above the ladder base with no further support allowed as I climb the rest of the ladder to having my feet at about a 23 or 24 foot level above the ground. Am I correctly understanding this? Thank you.
Asked by: Cucarache
If you need to reach 28 feet I would recommend the D7132-2 it has a 31 ft reach height. The D7128-2 only has a reach height of 27 ft

What is the correct way to retract the extension ladder D7128-2?

If the ladder is extended, how do I retract it in one way? I release the rope so that it falls at once and retracts, but it stays hooked on each rung.

Different types of ladders are designed to keep you safe and productive when climbing or standing. Using the wrong style of ladder or simply ignoring the limitations of climbing equipment can result in a fall or serious injury.
Height is referring to the actual ladder height. Extension ladders should be 7 to 10 feet longer than the highest support or contact point, which may be the wall or roof line. The highest standing level is four rungs down from the top. The highest permitted standing level on a stepladder is two steps down from the top.

Reach height is the maximum reach assuming a 5’6” person with a vertical 12” reach.
Ladders are designed to safely hold up to a specific amount of weight. The Werner Performance System defines five different capacities using a color and star rating system. The Duty Rating is defined as the maximum safe load capacity of the ladder. A person’s fully clothed weight plus the weight of any tools and materials that are carried onto the ladder must be less than the load capacity.

Werner offers ladder made from fiberglass and aluminum. Each material has characteristics which make it best for certain applications, or one material may simply fit the personal preferences of the user. For example, if working around electricity users should select fiberglass products due to their non-conductive side rails.
