I assume the landing space in the specifications is based on the tallest ceiling height in the range specificied. I have a tight acess area and am hoping there is less landing space needed than the 64" listed on the WH3010. Thanks for the help.

Can you close / open the stairs from the attic?

I'd like to use my attic / loft as an extra bedroom on rare occasion. Which means being able to go up into the attic, retract stairs and close the unit. Then doing the opposite to get down.

Can this be done with the WH3008 with a standard install?

If not, does anyone know of an approach that enables this?

If not, does anyone have suggestions of another ladder/stair that allows this?

Answer:
We do not manufacture a way to close or open the stairs from the attic. We suggest only opening the ladder from ground level. We do not manufacture anything for the application described.

How easy/practical would it be to detach the railings and springs so the stair can hang straight down and allow say a 28" diameter heater to be lowered through the 29 1/2" stair opening

We cannot suggest using the ladder in this manner for safety purposes. The ladder is not manufactured or tested to be used in this fashion.

We need to be able to get a 28 1/2" diameter water heater through the opening. We could detach the arms if necessary and hoist it up.

When the ladder is closed in the ceiling, it is part of a 1x6 pine T&G ceiling. Can I attach the same paneling to the plywood face?

Answers

Answer:
The standard gas struts on the AH2510 will not hold the extra weight on the ladder. However, kit number 36-81 is a heavy duty gas strut that will support more weight, allowing a piece of drywall or panel to be placed over the plywood door.

I have a rough opening of 30 1/2 X 54. On the left edge of the 54 side I have a wall. The outer edge of the wall exactly lines up with the inside of the rough opening. I see a frame on the outside of the rough opening. How close can the outer edge of the wall be to the Rough opening.

The people who will be using the ladder are not large, so the 350-lb rating isn't necessary. However I want a ladder that will be sturdy and hold together well. Wondering if the extra cost of the H model is worth it.

Answers

Answer:
The lumber used on the W series is a 1 x 4, the lumber used on the WH series is a 1 x 5. So basically the ladder rail is larger and stronger on the WH ladders which make it a heavier duty ladder.
